Welcome to The Bottomless Enjoyment by me, Joel Rockey. I write songs and stuff. I guess I’ve now been writing songs for half of my time on this little bluish rock we call home.
What is time anyhow?
In the pages of this Substack, I’m gonna write about my history with songs, writing songs, playing and singing songs, and being inspired by (or stealing from) the songs of others. Along the way, I’ll share home recorded demos of those songs, covers of songs, and maybe even delight you with the dulcet tones of my speaking voice.
Future posts will include possible such topics as:
Somewhere USA: A brief history of singing and lip-syncing the songs of cartoon rodents
Love & Nose Flutes
Somebody’s Brother: the story of a one and done power trio
Music As Discipleship (or, who am I kidding, youth ministry as band recruitment)
Grieving Through Songwriting
Someone’s Gotta Keep It On Going: From camp singer to song leader
Lucinda Williams: The spark that ignited an all-consuming fire in a young man’s bosom
Do these sound like topics you want to miss out on? You don’t need to write in and answer that. It was a rhetorical questions. Besides, any answer that keeps you from smashing that ‘subscribe now’ button is just plain foolishness.
I hope you’ll join me on this journey and chime in along the way.
Enjoy The Bottomless Enjoyment!
XOXO, JDR
